Digital Picture Frame
| |
Just as flat screens and LCD's are slowly
replacing traditional CRT TV sets in our household, digital picture frames have increased in
popularity within the last few years.
With the huge boost in photo media stored on
computers, digital frames are an affordable and easy way of showing pictures in your home or
office, without the loss of quality resulting from printing them on paper. We can safely
consider them a future alternative for the classical photo
album.
Digital photo frames are a cool and trendy gift
for everybody, in both business and home
sectors.
|
They can be the perfect gift for both your old relatives and young
“technology freaks”: everybody owns a camera these days, we all have pictures we care about and want to show
them to everyone who visits our home or office.
Depending on the
make and model, digital picture frames come with a wide range of functionalities. The most basic ones allow you to
read photos off a flash memory drive or SD card, run a slideshow of certain images of your choice or only display
one picture, like a regular photo frame.
More advanced digital frames come with internal, built in memory
of up to 16 gigabytes and have remote controls, allowing you to change the picture displayed, fast forward,
rewind or stop the slide show. They are either powered by standard DC batteries, or come with a notebook-like
battery and alternative AC power support. With PictBridge technology, you can print images directly to a
compatible printer, via USB or Bluetooth, without the need of a
computer.
One interesting feature some digital picture frames come with is the
ability to connect via WLAN to your computer or the Internet and download pictures in real time. Thus, you can
access the pictures on your frame, upload, delete or rename them, from your computer, over the home network,
without removing the SD card and plugging it in your laptop's card
reader.
Other digital picture frames come with MPEG4 support, allowing
you to watch short video sequences and listen to MP3 sounds on its incorporated speakers. Upload your
favorite videos and you can watch them without using your computer or a DVD
player.
It's known that online stores can generally afford to offer
better prices than brick and mortar ones, since they have lower overhead (rent, utilities, sales personnel).
When shopping for a digital photo frame, also keep in mind that more and more big online retailers have
teamed up with brand representatives and can offer far better rates than the corner electronics shop, as the
manufacturers will offer them consistent discounts.
Of course, if you're not quite ready for the digital frames yet,
you can't go wrong with a collage picture
frame!
